If you were hoping you’d be able to come across one of the coins by accident, you’ll be disappointed to learn the £2 coins won’t be entered into general circulation. 'We are delighted to have worked with Dame Vera’s family to help this coin come to life.” 'The collectable £2 is The Royal Mint’s latest tribute to one of Britain’s greatest national treasures.
The coin was originally unveiled as one of five coins in the 2022 Annual Set, and created in collaboration with Dame Vera’s family.Ĭlare Maclennan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint said: “Fondly known as the ‘Forces’ Sweetheart’, Dame Vera Lynn’s songs were crucial in maintaining morale during the Second World War and it is an honour to celebrate her legacy on a £2 coin. It will also feature an inscription around the edge saying ‘WE’LL MEET AGAIN’ as a nod to one of her most popular songs. The reverse design of this £2 UK coin features a beautifully detailed portrait of Dame Vera as she appeared. The portrait, which shows the singer at the prime of her career, will be accompanied by her dates of birth and death and her name. Dame Vera Lynn is a famous celebrity from Word War II where her timeless renditions of classic songs such as We’ll Meet Again kept the spirits up and boosted the morale of the British troops fighting the war.
